GLADEVILLE, Tenn. — The cars weren’t the only highlight at the NASCAR race July 23, in Gladeville, Tenn. The opening invocation before the Nationwide Federated Auto Parts 300 race has drawn nationwide attention for its unusual content.
Joe Nelms, pastor of Family Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tenn., delivered the prayer and expressed thankfulness for a lot of unusual things.
According to The Tennessean, Nelms expressed his gratitude for “Sunoco racing fuel and Goodyear tires that bring performance and power to the track,” and “Most of all, thank you for Roush and Yates partnering to give us the power that we see before us tonight.”
He also had high praise for his family, saying, “I want to thank you for my smokin’ hot wife tonight, Lisa, and my two children, Eli and Emma, or as we like to call the, 'The Little E’s.’ ”
Nelms closed his prayer using part of Darrell Waltrip’s signature call with his own twist.
It really would have been appropriate to hear a big THANK YOU FATHER for Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteWe still thank God that there was even a prayer brought before any event in America.
