Want your sins forgiven and have a clear conscience? There’s an app for that!

A new app for the iPad and iPhone is designed to help Catholics keep track of their sins and last date of confession, and it guides them through the penance process.

The “Confession: A Roman Catholic App” designed by Little I Apps takes the user through a list of questions which they then check boxes for the sins they committed.

The description says that the app cannot take the place of actual confessing before a priest, but from $1.99 it is supposed to begin to absolve the user of their sins.

Not being Catholic, I confess, it seems that the act of a digital confession removes the user from the personal connection with the priest. Although the app states it does not substitute for a confession, users in this “quick fix” age are surely going to see it as a shortcut to a clear conscience.
